About Manchester Poetry Library
Manchester Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University is the first poetry library in the northwest and will be a place for everyone to explore and enjoy poetry.
Based in the heart of Manchester, a UNESCO City of Literature, Manchester Poetry Library offers an extensive collection of contemporary poetry from books to recordings, in multiple languages.
For those already passionate about poetry through to those at the beginning of their poetry journey, the Poetry Library’s programme, its space and its collection are a rich resource for anyone to enjoy.
From readings to workshops to residencies, the Poetry Library will nurture and develop all those interested in and inspired by poetry, from schoolchildren to professional poets.
The Poetry Library is the only one in the UK to be supported by a university. It builds on the University’s esteemed reputation for poetry and creative writing through The Manchester Writing School.
We recognise the value and impact of poetry on individuals and communities. This is something at the heart of our offer that will be continually evaluated and evolved.
Poetry Library is free and open to all.
“A place where you can walk in and know that whoever you are and wherever you are from, poetry – like all art – belongs to you.” – Jean Sprackland
